To which I am grateful for...

On our drive back home tonight, I was thinking of all the things I am grateful for.
After so many years of crushes, dates, sappy chick flicks, crying, impatience, praying & hoping, I am so truly grateful to have a good man by my side. He is everything I could have hoped to find in a good partner. I appreciate his patience. God knew I would need a man with an endless supply of love & patience. Levi makes my life more rich and exciting. I am so deeply blessed.
I am thankful that my relationship with my parents has improved, especially with my Mom. It's nice to be able to communicate well.
I'm blessed with a good sister (a.k.a. Ex Sister-in-Law) who loves and cares for my Dad. I'm thankful I can turn to her when it comes to my Dad's medical history and she's willing to assist in anyway possible. It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone in this experience.
Man, am I grateful for Buzz. When I met him and his wife Reed 11 years ago, I didn't know how deep they would be ingrained in my heart. They are two of the best people to come into the life of my family. In fact, they are family! They have done so much for me and every single person in my family. They are the salt of the earth. Tonight, when I called Buzz, who was out to dinner with his family & his brothers' families, he said that he & his brothers would rush right over to help give my Dad a Priesthood blessing. The way they came in and encircled my Dad with love and friendship was truly beautiful. They love my Dad and it was witnessed in the words of the blessing.
I am thankful for my Dad. I don't think I'll ever be able to adequately express how much he and my Mom have done for me.  But my Dad, he's taught me everything I know about service. He's an honest man. There's no BS with him, he's a straight shooter and you'll know exactly where you stand with him. He's definitely one of a kind. Sometimes I see a little bit more of him in me and that makes me all the more grateful.
I am thankful for a loving Heavenly Father who has placed people in my life to buoy me up when the waves of life get to be too much. He has truly blessed me with a circle of angels.

BIRTHDAY!

Dude . . . today's my birthday!
I love today.  I love the love that abundantly showers me from all across the world, from such sweet, thoughtful loved ones.  I like counting my blessings on this special day of mine.

*I'm thankful for my dear sweet love of my life.  Being married to him feels like my birthday and Christmas combined, every day.  He makes my life so much more thrilling, funnier, fuller and special in each and every way.  I will never know how I got so lucky to find someone who loves me so much, patiently understands my quirky tendencies, and celebrates my talents & skills.

*I'm glad to have the relationship that I do with my nephews & niece.  They are such a bright spot in my life.  I have had the beautiful blessing of having a first row seat to their lives.  They are such tenderhearted and funny spirits.   I love them with all of my heart and I'm blessed to feel their love in return.

*Even though I don't see my parents everyday anymore, I'm grateful for all that they've done for me.  They can be the most selfless individuals in my time of need.  There are many things that they have taught me.  I can only hope that they've always tried their best to be my parents.  I know that I've tried my best to be a good daughter to them.  This is what life is about; learning to be our best self.

*I always wanted a sister growing up, I didn't know that I would find one in my sister-in-law, turned ex-sister-in-law, now sister.  She has taught me so very much.  She is a very good parent to her 4 kids because of the way she listens and observes their individual needs and talents.  She has a good heart and has always been the best cheerleader anyone would want in their corner.

*I'm grateful for my friends.  They accept me for me and love me so much.  Heaven knows I'm not perfect, but I always try my very best to be a very good friend.  I'm so lucky that I'll get to celebrate my birthday with a few of my closest oldest friends, this weekend. So excited!!  But seriously, I love them all.  They bring so much laughter to my life.  I love my friends who share their cultures with me and most especially the unity we always have over good food.  I'm grateful to always have a friend I can call up and say, "Hey, wanna go grab some tacos?" and sure enough, either one of us will show up late, but it's the fact that they showed up.  Love my friends!

*I love my home that I have with my husband.  It's cute and quaint and special because I feel like it's a safe haven of peace, love and laughter.  I'm sure it's because of who I share it with. :)

*I love all the blessings that I've received from my Heavenly Father.  I'm thankful for the talents that I have and the opportunity to cultivate new ones and share all of them.  Sometimes, I like to step back and think, "Dude, I just did that with my two hands!"  I love the pure knowledge and testimony that I have that He lives, as does His Son, Jesus Christ.  I'm not the best Mormon, heaven knows I have my downfalls, but I try my best to do good and be good.

*I love my life.  It's comfortable and happy and oh so funny.  Today, I love it 34,000x even more!  Happy birthday ME! :)

NINE DAYS!!

How is the time flying by so SOOOOOOOOOOOO quickly?!?!? I feel like there's a lot to do and the time is just flying by so FAST!!
There's so much to blog about that I don't even know where to start...especially when it's now 12:02am and I should have been asleep over an hour ago.  It's so damn hot right now, I can't sleep in this heat!
What's on my mind.....

*Levi and I had my sister over for dinner and to hang out.  It was pretty great.  I think this is the most I've seen my sister in a week, since January.

*My 2 oldest nephews came to visit and it was oh so nice having all my nephews and nieces in one place.  I love them all so much!!

*It was especially nice having Bub's wife here as well.  Heaven knows I didn't make it easy on her, while she was dating Bub.  I'm glad she understands that I was just overprotective.  My nephews haven't really just been nephews to me, I see them as my younger brothers sometimes.  I'm so grateful for them.  I'm also grateful to have Bub's wife in our family, as well.  Even though I gave her a hell of a time, she's always been so kind to me & my family.  I couldn't be any happier for Bub to have someone as caring as she, for eternity.

*My oldest nephew Simi got engaged on Tuesday.  I missed the proposal by a few minutes, but the video captured it nicely.  I hope he's genuinely happy.  Even though he's been here and we've spent some time together, I don't think I had a conversation with him, longer than 2 minutes.  I think I spoke with her just as long, too.  She seems nice, but perhaps we'll get a chance to talk a little longer than next time I come across her.

*I hate this heat.  It's just so miserable.  I will take the cold ANYTIME!!!

*Ok, I'm getting tired and my eyelids are getting heavy.

G'nite.

Random + Character Reference + Life in March

*Tonight, one of my best friends asked me to write a character reference letter for their court appearance.  Of course this was easy to do, because I have nothing bad to say about this person.  It made me think of what would be said for me, if I was ever in need of such a reference letter.  I guess it's the same for what I hope is said in my obituary some day.... I hope it's filled with good and funny things.

*My sister's birthday was this past Wednesday.  We chatted that day, but I wasn't able to call or visit her.  Perhaps I'll swing by tomorrow, since I'll be down in her neck o' woods for....

*My Dad's birthday is tomorrow...I guess technically today.  I can't believe how old he is.  Time flies by so quickly.  Sometimes I look at him and wish he were 50 years younger.  I often wonder what it would be like to have been friends with my parents, at my age.   Sometimes I miss his laugh and his funny jokes, especially his magic tricks.  I'm glad I get to see my Dad tomorrow.

*Work is going pretty well, at least I think so.   Sometimes it's very interesting reading through certain court documents, as I prepare case files.  So far, I like everyone I work with.  Everyone's so nice, welcoming and positive.  I would most certain enjoy working there for MANY years to come.  A chick was fired this last week, oh man, it made me remember when I was fired once.  Dude, once you're fired you NEVER want to relive that experience again.  I felt for her because it all happened in about 2 minutes!  I don't know what she did or didn't do, but damn it definitely lit a fire under my butt because for the rest of the afternoon I pumped out those case files like no one's business!

*Jackass 3D just came on tv (censored)....oh man, some of that junk makes me crack up!!  Duck Hunting--YES!!!

*Levi and I went to see 300: Rise of an Empire today.  Intense!!

*Hermanita and I went to San Diego Home Cooking this past Thursday.  Oh man, SUPER FRIGGIN DELISH!! I was tellling Tat about it, and now we'll be going back on Tuesday with Brighty.  It's like a cross between Denny's and Marie Callender's.  Their buns are THE BEST!!*

*Ok, it's late and a big beautiful, luxurious bed is calling out for me! G'nite!

Dia de los Muertos.

Dia de los Muertos is one of my favorite holidays.  My sister & I try to celebrate it down in Old Town, by checking out the exhibits and eating at one of the many great eateries.  This year, her two youngest kids came along, as well as Levi.

We ate at Berta's Latin American Restaurant.  To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of it.  I ordered a Columbian dish, but I think my palate is use to Mexican food.  I'm way ok with that!
We walked around Old Town and bought a few trinkets...and lost a some, too.

I love Sugar Skulls!  I like to think I have a collection, but I have 2 so far. While walking around, I don't know how/where I lost one of my earrings.  I'm way bummed about that! Especially since they were a gift, from Ame. Dangit.

I really enjoyed looking at some of the displays, especially those created from rice, beans, kernels & saw dust.  How beautiful and creative!! It was a nice night out celebrating Dia de los Muertos.

Dude, it's Monday.

*This picture makes me laugh!

*I always have THE BEST weekends with Levi! He's just so much fun and we laugh so much.  I just realized this morning, that yesterday was our monthly anniversary.  Lucky #13!  I love that man!

*So I'm into Walking Dead, now.  Sometimes, when I'm driving, I like to think about how I could survive a zombie apocalypse.  Yeah....it's really random, but you never know...it could come in handy, someday. {but I really hope not}

*I survived Day 1 of my sister not being in the office.  My motor mouth coworker and I didn't strangle each other.  Then again, we're still in the "honeymoon stage".  We've still got 5 more days together. Pray for me.

*Movies I can't wait to see: Bad Grandpa, Gravity & Thor.

*My iPod that I've had since 2007, that had 11,000+ songs, died.  It just quit working.  I didn't drop it, and in fact, it was in really great shape!  I'm so bummed.  So I bought a used one (I didn't really care) and so far I only have 800 songs on my iTunes.  Sad, sad day.  I'm bummed that I lost so much music, but honestly, I wanted a new iPod.  My old one was engraved from an exbf.  However, I have to return the "new" one because it's acting weird and not downloading my 800 songs.  Lame.  I think I'll just myself a (real) new one, after all.  Happy Thanksgiving to myself.

*Ok, I'd go on with the randomosities, but I'm gonna go home now.  10 hours chained to my desk makes for a very long day.

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you, tomorrow!

Dude, tomorrow I'm going to Disneyland with my sister, Kalanster & Novee! I am friggin' stoked!!!

Seriously, I LOOOOOOVE Disneyland!!!  We'll be meeting with more of my family that's in from Australia! I'm so dang elated!!  The only thing that would make it PERFECT would be if Levi was coming with us. He makes everything so much more fun!  Oh well....a Disneyland trip for later.

I'm just hoping that we do both parks (Disneyland & California Adventure) because I LOVE LOVE LOVE CarsLand!!!  I could ride Mater's Junkyard Jamboree about 100 times because it's just that fun!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! Just thinking about it all is making me SUPER EXCITED!!!  I hope we stay for the fireworks show, that's my favorite. Such sweet, sweet memories. ♥

Ok ok... I need to get back to work, or else someone's not going to Disneyland tomorrow.
Kid at heart!

Health Hiccup.

Since yesterday, I've been laid up in bed, not really enjoying being a woman.
Sometimes, I DO NOT enjoy being a woman....it's just downright painful, amongst other things.
This wasn't exactly the week I had in mind.

Tomorrow I'm suppose to go to a Padres v. Mariners game with my sister.  I'm HOPING that the medicine kicks in SOON, so I can go enjoy a really good baseball game!  Man, I looooooove watching baseball in Petco Park! Plus, my sister and I are planning on enjoying some Phil's BBQ at Petco since they now serve up local restaurants.

Then Friday, the most AWESOMEST weekend with Levi begins!!!  I cannot wait!!!  Seriously, I think once this health hiccup subsides, I can really truly look forward to this AMAAAAAAAZING weekend that starts tomorrow.

Until then, I just need to relax a bit and not stress anymore.... thank goodness for little modern medical miracles.

The Five Love Languages

Last night's FHE about "The Five Love Languages" was GREAT!!  This is the biggest turn out to FHE that we've had since I've been in the ward! I'm so glad that so many were able to make it.   I've come to learn how powerful publicizing it can be! I'm so glad we had enough refreshments because I got worried half way through.  Thankfully we didn't have to take advantage of WalMart that's a mile away.
Anyways, back to the Five Love Languages (by Gary Chapman), I think it's such fascinating topic.  Once, I had to teach it for a Family Foundation class for Pathways, and I couldn't be more grateful for it!
The Five Love Languages are:
Words of Affirmation:  Hearing "I love you", unsolicited compliments and kind words mean the world to you.  Insults [can leave you shattered and] are not easily forgotten.
Quality Time: You need full, undivided attention.  Distractions, postponed dates or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful.
Receiving Gifts: Thrives on the thoughts & reasons behind a gift.  A missed birthday or anniversary or a hasty/thoughtless gift would be disastrous.
Acts of Service: Eases the receiver's burdens of responsibility "Let me do that for you" speaks volumes.  Laziness, broken commitments & making more word for them tells them their feelings don't matter.
Physical Touch: Very touchy! Appreciates hugs, pats on the back, holding hands, thoughtful touches on the arm, shoulder, face, etc.  This shows care, concern & love.  Neglect or abuse can be unforgivable & destructive.

I really like learning about the love languages.  I think there's so much to learn about it and how different people in our lives "communicate".  I've come to understand my parents a little bit more because I think I've figured out their language.  Before my love language was "Quality Time" which made sense as to how much I desired and thrived on time, spent in person, with my family and friends.  A few months ago my 'language' changed to, "Acts of Service" and I could see how that applied to my home life.  These days, my 'language' is "Words of Affirmation" and I would never have thought that would ever be my 'love language', but it somehow is.  Reflecting back on the last few weeks, I can see how it's developed into that.  Nothing makes me feel more special & loved than when Levi compliments my straight hair, or cuteness or just whispers, "I love you"....I LOVE that oh so much!!!!! I also love when my niece and sister notice and compliment something I'm wearing or something else special about me.  I've also noticed how much I like to sincerely tell others how I feel about them. As nice as that is, I need to observe what their love language is and communicate accordingly.
Learning the love languages takes time, but applying them to personal relationships can be so worth it! I suggest you try it!

Brothers.

For the last week, the thought of my brothers have weighed heavy on my mind. I have two older brothers; Dave is 17 years my senior, and then there's Wayne, who is 11 years older.  Growing up, I was closer to Wayne because he was a lil closer in age, and our birthdays are a day apart.  He always made me laugh and was just fun to be around.  Eventually, my relationship with Dave grew and he became like second Dad to me.  I was very grateful for the overprotective natures of my older brothers.
When I was 16, Wayne moved out and then got married.  It wasn't the most agreeable situation of which the marriage took place, but I tried to support my brother. Eventually, our relationship changed and we grew very distant. About 3.5 years ago, my relationship with my oldest brother changed extremely. Because of that, it also affected my relationship with Wayne.  Now, my brothers and I are estranged from each other. We don't necessarily agree with each others' lives and choices.
This past week, I dreamt that my sister was getting remarried and my brothers were there at her reception.  I saw my brother Wayne and wanted to talk with him. I approached him and tried to talk to him, but he kept backing away. He pulled out nunchucks and wanted to use them on me. I just wanted to talk to him, and try to reconnect. Unfortunately, we didn't get to talk and I woke up. Two nights ago, I had a dream that my brother Dave and I were in a kitchen, sitting down at the table. I tried to reach out to him, so we could talk, but he pulled away. I wanted to talk because I wasn't happy with what our relationship had turned into. He didn't want to talk, and he wasn't the same brother I had known--which felt very similar to real life.  Again, I tried to talk with him but he didn't budge.
I miss my brothers. I miss who they were. They're foreign to me now.  Our lives are unknown to each other.  I don't know if and when I'll talk to them again. I think there's too much hurt and pride in the way for us to communicate with each other.  It's unfortunate.  Perhaps Dave is hurt that I decided to stick by my sister [ex sister-in-law] after he made certain choices.  I've told my Mom that I miss my brothers, because I know she still has a relationship with them.  However, I don't know if that'll really make a difference between my brothers us I.  I'm thankful for the good memories I had of my brothers.  Those are the stories I'll share with my children, someday.

How you like them apples?

I'm going to...

I'm pretty dang excited!! I've been wanting to go to Seattle for a few years now, so I'm stoked that work will be taking me there for a week.  As in this next week.

I leave a day before Levi gets home from his 3 week trip.

Yeah, I'm bummed because I've missed him T-E-R-R-I-B-L-Y!  It's bittersweet, but I'm still stoked for this cool experience, of being in Seattle.  I'll be helping out some friends with their film archival conference.  Since it's a conference, it's full of people who LOVE this stuff. I remember meeting the lead film archivist from UCLA, who apparently is really big in this field.... yeah, I had to match his enthusiasm while he went on and on and on about archiving.
Other than that,  it's a very sweet set up.... I get paid, a free plane ticket, my own room & board and get to do a lil sight seeing of Seattle.  I'm a lil bummed that my sister won't be going this year, as she did two years ago to Philadelphia. I'll also be missing my stake Christmas concert that I've been rehearsing with for the past 2 months.  I hope they do well!
I can't wait to see/do: Pike Place Market, The Great Wheel (I'm hoping to ride this, since it'll be my first time on a ferris wheel.), Chihuly Glass Museum, go to Starbucks [which I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of drink runs here] and eat an apple.
However, I. CANNOT. WAIT. to fly home! My sweetheart will be picking me up from the airport and I couldn't be more pleased!! I've missed him so much and to be honest, I've always wanted someone special to pick me up at the airport.  There's just something more....special about it!  I can't wait to wrap my arms around him and just hold him tight.   I've never been this patient before in my life--3 weeks turned into 4 weeks.... and sadly, I'll be missing our 2 month anniversary.  I'm grateful that he's patient, because it kinda rubs off on me.

Kinda.

Well, I gotta go finish packing.... Hello Seattle! Can't wait to taste your apples!

Dia de los Muertos

On Friday night, we cruised down to Old Town to check out the Dia de los Muertos festivities.

I LOVE this holiday.  I love all the sugar skulls and just what this holiday represents.  My sister and I are fascinated by it and enjoy it all.  This year, it was fun to share it with Levi.

Levi and I checked out several of the alters and some of the DdlM festivities that were going on around Presidio Park.  It was so neat to see, as well as all those who dressed up for the occasion.

Alters, to remember dear loved ones.
As we waited for our table, at the Old Town Mexican Cafe, my niece had her face painted
She was pretty excited for it!  I'm not gonna lie, I kinda wanted my face painted too! :)

I'm stoked that my friend Tat was able to cruise down as well
Dia de los Muertos is just one of those holidays that it's better to experience with a group of people.  Besides, it's Old Town, there's just a lot of cool things to check out!  I love it.  Dinner was FANTASTIC and I LOVE LOVE LOVE mariachis!!  Seriously, I think my heart is half Mexican!  I'll have to explain in detail why I love mariachis so much...but for now, I leave you with this lil gem:

Date night...with the fam!

I could watch this video a hundred times over! It's an amazing performance and her vocals (and lyrics) are just phenomenal! I love this song!

Last night, Levi and I planned on going out to play miniature golf, but at the last minute, I thought it would be fun to invite my sister and the kids.  Oh man, it was a fun night! I'm so glad that Levi had the chance to get to know my family a lil more.  Plus, it's mini-golf & go-karts, so it was just a fun atmosphere all around!

I didn't think the go-karts would be as fun as they were, but man, I couldn't stop laughing! I was trying to take photos, well, I was trying to drive as fast as I could and pull my camera out at the same time....then tried to take photos at the same time.  Oh man, it was all too funny!! I had a great time with Levi and I'm so glad we all had a good time together.  Fun times!!

On my mind.....

*I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! It's the song that Peej sang to his Habibi.  I love the lyrics, they're so sweet and endearing.

*Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays are the LONGEST days... :(

*I can't wait til Friday when I get to see Levi again!! Oh man, he makes me smile and I miss him so much when I'm not near him.

*I love my sister and grateful to have her to talk with.  I'm so blessed.

*Have I mentioned how much I really, REALLY miss him when I don't get to see him.... sigh.... Friday....so close, but so far away.....

Silent Movie Night!

I LOVE Silent Movie Night in Balboa Park! It's a fun Summer activity and it's definitely a different type of movie-watching experience!
Tonight, we watched, Hot Water, from 1924!!  It was good! I loved it! It just made me think of how simple movies use to be....yet they were very entertaining.  I also love the fact that the organist played during the entire 59 minutes of the movie!!  What an awesome talent!!  It was such a fun night!  And I'm so glad that so many ward friends (& family) were able to make it!  It made the night much more fun!

I love any chance I get to hang out with my wonderful friend, PajamaPants!  He can make me laugh like no other!  I'm so blessed that we're still friends! I love him dearly!

Glad my niece and sister were able to experience the thrill of "Silent Movie Night" in Balboa Park!

My new friend, WiseGuy came and I got him to do a Shake Face photo! Oh man, those are my favorite pics! WiseGuy's a fun guy.  We were playing "Where's My Perry" on his phone, while we waited for movie to start.  I felt like we were 10 year old kids just hangin out, without the awkward sexual tension.  I love it when a guy & girl can just be friends.  He's pretty cool!

All in all, it was fun! I made [Hawaiian] Chicken Long Rice and shared it with some of my friends (those who didn't bring something to eat).  Can I just say, I love cooking for others! I'm glad they all liked it!

Next up....
Lunch with Mr.Red tomorrow.  G'nite.

The "No More Wasted Weekends!" post.

*I love listening to this "I am a Mormon" video:
I love this version of "Teach Me to Walk in the Light" on the Ukulele! It's so sweet!

*My sister, niece and I went to watch The Avengers today.  Oh man, LOOOOOOOVED IT!!!!!!!!! Captain America is SOOO HOT!!!! As well as Thor and I just love Iron Man! My sister and I started to feel really sick after the movie.  I don't know if it was because we OD'd on movie popcorn and Coke Zero or what! But seriously, I wanted to throw up. I'm thinking it could have been all of that, plus the fact that we were sitting in the 3rd row of the theatre.  I felt dizzy at times during the movie because we were so close and due to so many of the fast moving scenes.  Never again!

*I'm currently spending the night at Reed's house, watching her four kids.  I love these kids so much.  I was suppose to go to her birthday party before heading over to her house to babysit, but since I was sick, I skipped it.  When I showed up to take over for the teenage girl who was watching the kids earlier, I bid her goodbye and to have a great evening, she said, "Oh yeah! Time for my social life!"  It made met think, "Whoa, wait a second! You're a teenager with a "social life" and I'm spending my night in babysitting?? What?!?"  She was practically skipping towards the door and right out into the night.  Seriously, this needs to change.  This is my 3rd weekend that I haven't done anything. I mean, I know tonight I was suppose to go out, but got sick.  The last 2 weekends I was moving and unpacking.  Next weekend is Memorial Day weekend, I need to make something MEMORABLE about it!  If a teenager can have a social life, so can I! C'mon Ehu, what happened to your spunk?!?!?  Get with it!

*I talked with Vans today.  I'm glad we're friends.  He's seeing someone now.  I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only one single amongst my non-married friends?!  Geez, seriously, I need to start doing something and doing something FAST!  I think I'm gonna hit up the SD Single Adult Memorial Day Conference next weekend.  I NEED to do something and meet people, this is gettin' kinda pathetic!

*Ok, I need to go make a ti-leaf lei before it gets way too late. Hermana R is leaving the mission field with her husband, their time is up and they're headed home.  Tomorrow's their last Sunday as well as Stake Conference.  I will always be so grateful I was blessed to meet and learn from the great Hermana R! I will think of her every time I see and hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing.  Heavenly Father surely knows where to send His missionaries.
