Crazy ideas! Midnight sewing!

Late last night, after talking with a friend, I decided it would be nice after all to have a lil shindig at Extraordinary Desserts for my birthday tomorrow night.  I need something to wear because you just need to feel and look special when celebrating your birthday.  Somehow, I figure that means making a dress for the occasion.  I'm kinda excited for this dress I'll be making tonight. {Some of my best creations come with sewing at midnight}  I bought the fabric to make a skirt, but it's actually wide enough to make a dress.  There's just something about sewing that I love.  I don't know if it's the sense of accomplishment, knowing the dress I'm making is quality made, the fact that I MADE it with my own two hands, or that it is totally couture!  Maybe it's all of those reasons.  Alrighty....I better get started on my Friday night plans.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND TO ME!

Always a bridesmaid.....

Oh yeah, I forgot....
A friend asked me to be one of her bridesmaids today.
I'm so pleased do to this for my friend, Humi.  I love her dearly!
I wasn't expecting it AT ALL!! It was a shock when she asked me because I didn't even see it coming. I thought we were talking about Relief Society related stuff....and then I got the curveball.
WOW. I haven't been a bridesmaid since I was 17.
It'll be late November.  I have to find a navy blue dress, that's to my knees and silver shoes.

I think I found what I want....
I like the style of this dress and it's LDS appropriate/modest.  And the shoes are just right! Simple :)  I'm not a fan of heels, especially when you're a bridesmaid (aka: on your feet ALLLLLLLLLLLLL day & night!).
I'm pretty stoked! Wow....a wedding.  Always a bridesmaid, never a bride ;)

In the end, I hope this happens:

p.s. Wait---does this mean I have to find a wedding date?!? Ugggggh, man..... seriously?!?! Dangit... And I thought the hard part was trying to find the dress & shoes?!  I wonder what Mr. Red's doing that day? Hmmm......

I guess I could go with these shoes instead...they do seem more "wedding'ish":
It has a slight heel, which won't put me too much taller than the other girls, it's silver and looks somewhat comfy for ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL day and night? Suck it up, Ehu, this is part of being a woman!

Birthday Dress.

I woke up in the middle of the night, so I decided to finish watching "The Secret Life of Bees".  Something I didn't quite notice the first time I watched it were the dresses.  Most of the women in the movie wear dresses/skirts the whole time.

It fed into my need for wearing dresses and skirts.  I have no idea where this desire to wear dresses & skirts more often has come from?!  But I like it.  They also wore very lovely brooch pinned to their dresses. LOVED it!!

Then it made me think of my birthday dress.  Since my birthday will be on a Sunday this year, I want to make a church appropriate dress....styled after the 50's.  I want to make this:
Isn't it just so snazzy!?  I love it!! It's actually a cocktail dress from the 1950's.  [So in essence I'm making a cocktail dress for church ;) ] I already have the shoes and necklace that I want to wear with it.  I'm trying to think of the color and fabric I'd like to go with.  I'm thinking Seersucker, because I love the way it feels.  I like textured fabrics, like last year's birthday dress that I made:
It adds a lil bit of fun for me to enjoy while wearing it.  I just like those lil touches that I know about.  Something my Mom use to point out to me after she made me something to wear.   Hmm...maybe I'll go with the fabrics found here and here.  I want something nice & classy but nothing ostentatious.
I can't wait to make this cocktail dress!!
