Happy Birthday America!

Dude, I love this day!! This is one of my most favorite holidays.  I love everything it stands for and the opportunity it gives Americans to be a little more patriotic today.  How can this song not get you to hold your head up a little higher and be proud to be an American?! I love it!

Now if only I could find this lil gem, it would make the day so much better!
Don't assume that I'd only wear them today... I've been searching for these for the last 2 years! I would proudly wear them ALL. THE. TIME.!! I love them!
Anywhoooo... I need to start packing up my stuff and get going to the beach, I've got a tan awaiting me, family to see and BBQ'd corn on the cob waiting to be eatten! LOVE IT!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!! MY COUNTRY TIS OF THEE!

Christmas Stockings!

I'm getting more and more excited for Christmas!! Today our Christmas stockings arrived!! Way stoked!
think they are just so dang cute! My Levi wanted stockings that had Mr. & Mrs. Claus, since his parents had them when he was growing up. In my family, we had the traditional red ones, with our names in glittery cursive. I've gotta say, I really like our new stockings! They're a lot cuter than I was expecting!
Speaking of stockings, we bought stocking stuffers for my family & Levi's niece. However, we really didn't have any stockings to put all their goodies in! Whoopsy daisy!  I don't know what lead me to Google, this morning.....but this was the finished product tonight:
It gave me a reason to pull out my Christmas present! My new sewing machine:
(Not sure if I ever mentioned that? More on that later)
I seriously think those paper bag stockings are super cute, creative & earth friendly! There is something to be said about handmade gifts, at Christmas time. I just love it! I think there's a deeper meaning and more thoughtfulness! I'm grateful for my creative mom who taught me the wonderful talent of sewing! I'll never be able to adequately thank her for that.
Hope everyone is enjoying this Christmas season!!

Dia de los Muertos.

Dia de los Muertos is one of my favorite holidays.  My sister & I try to celebrate it down in Old Town, by checking out the exhibits and eating at one of the many great eateries.  This year, her two youngest kids came along, as well as Levi.

We ate at Berta's Latin American Restaurant.  To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of it.  I ordered a Columbian dish, but I think my palate is use to Mexican food.  I'm way ok with that!
We walked around Old Town and bought a few trinkets...and lost a some, too.

I love Sugar Skulls!  I like to think I have a collection, but I have 2 so far. While walking around, I don't know how/where I lost one of my earrings.  I'm way bummed about that! Especially since they were a gift, from Ame. Dangit.

I really enjoyed looking at some of the displays, especially those created from rice, beans, kernels & saw dust.  How beautiful and creative!! It was a nice night out celebrating Dia de los Muertos.

I can see the weekend from here....

-Dude, it's been a long week. I feel like the weekend is forever away.

-Tomorrow night, Levi and I are taking my nephew & niece to the Whaley House.  We didn't have a lot of time to do much else while we were in Old Town last week for Dia de los Muertos.  They've never been so we're looking forward to taking them.  I think Old Town Mexican Restaurant is calling our names.  Love that place!

-I need to get my hair trimmed, this weekend.  I figure if I'm doing a lil Ehu Prep, that I might go for a pedicure as well.   I think this lil pampering will make me feel quite lovely since SharkWeek/Moon Week is this week.  Speakin' of which.....

-I have a friend who created this trippy cool website dedicated to women's menstrual cycles.  Seriously, there's a lot more there than you'd think.  Check it out! I love reading the blogs! Learned quite a bit and enjoyed knowing that I'm not the only one that has rough periods.  I think what's way cool about the website, is that you can order menstrual products from around the world. It comes in a sweet lil package that includes chocolate, tea & limited edition art print.  How cool is that?!?!

-Can I just that I really enjoy where I work?!  The cashiers are sweet and oh so funny! I wish I spoke more Spanish so I could understand all of their jokes.  I'm glad that I work with my sister, she's good at what she does.  The general manager is way funny and I'm glad he appreciates my "kick ass" performance. {those were his words}.  Sometimes I could do without MotorMouth, but what are ya gonna do.  Gotta take the good with the bad. :-/ I like the vibe here and the food here is awesome!

-I'm so glad to have the NutriBullet extractor blade again! Hellooooo smoothies!!!  LOVE IT!!

-For Valentines Day, my sweetheart made me the most beautiful Hope Chest!  I love it. However, I haven't filled it...or put anything in it, AT ALL. I feel bad. I mean, I LOVE to look at it and feel the grain of the woods. It's just so beautiful!  I want to buy & put bed linens in it, but I'm always unsure what size of bed we'll get.  We don't need silverware or plates, so what does that leave me to fill it with? I just want to put something in it so it seems like I truly appreciate it.  I think I need to just roam the aisles of Bed, Bath & Beyond or Ikea til I feel inspired.  Yep, that must be it!

-At work, 98% of the employees are fluent in Spanish.  A lot of them can barely speak Spanish.  I think it's funny when they whisper in front of me. If only they knew.........I don't really speak Spanish.  With all my heart, I wish I could speak Spanish, fluently.  Oh well, someday.....

-Man, it's still Thursday....  I need to do laundry.  I got away with wearing the same two pants this week. The blessing of Febreeze.  Kinda gross but effective.  I can't rotate the same pants 3x in one week, especially since i'm gonna see Levi tomorrow night.  Yep, I'm definitely doing laundry tonight.

HALLOWEEN 2013
in pictures....

THE PANDAS ESCAPED!!!

Mime in a box!

Kudos to those who know what movie this costume comes from!

How cute is he with his purple bowtie?! Answer: SUPER CUTE!

The second pumpkin I've ever carved in my life. LOVED IT!

Free hand carving--oh yeah!! That's Tat's pumpkin on the left.  Yep, we rocked it!

I think Dorothy wanted me to carry her back to Kansas.
I've gotta say, that I think Halloween is quickly becoming one of my favorite holidays! So much fun!

As of late in late, late June.

*I haven't blogged for a while, I think I was recovering from all this engagement excitement!  I love being engaged to the bestest man in the entire universe.

*Speaking of which, one of my nephews got married this past Friday.
They were married up in Logan, Utah.  I'm happy for his happiness.  I wish them the very best!  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it up there for their wedding, but I'm grateful for all the pics I was able to see moments afterwards.

*My whole family went up to Utah for the wedding and man, can I just say San Diego felt VERY lonely! I mean, I know I had Levi, but it's a whole different feeling when every single member of your family leaves.  I haven't really felt that since I lived up in Utah for school. I think I'm very much my father's daughter--I need family members surrounding me.

*I had a wonderful time with Levi, this weekend.  I just love spending time with him!

*Church was good today.  I hung out with Hoddie today. Oh man, she makes me laugh!

*My very good friend Dixie came to town on Thursday.  Hermanita, Arbro, Dixie & I went to Lolita's in Bonita for some super delicious Mexican food!! Oh man, seriously, I LOOOOOOVE Mexican food

*As far as wedding plans go.... we're thinking of next spring.  I'm glad.  I'm not in a rush to start all this wedding planning craziness!!! No way, Jose!  No thanks!  This is a good thing, because it gives us a lot of time to spend at the gym.  Can I just say how much I like working out with Levi?!  Sometimes, it's a lil hard because we make each other laugh, but I'm glad we're doing this!

*I'm looking forward to the 4th of July. I LOVE Independence Day! It's the best!  I love celebrating this great country......with bbq's....at the beach.....with fireworks!! Love it!

*Ok....I'm out! Peace!

Mahalo Mom!

This past weekend was Mothers Day.  It's also the weekend I became more appreciative of all the sewing lessons my Mom gave me, growing up.  I whipped out 3 skirts in under 5 hours and I was pretty dang proud of myself.  While I stayed up from 1am to 6am, early Saturday morning, my Mom would pop her head in just to see how I was doing.  {Little did she know that I had HeMan & SheRa to keep my company! Who knew they still showed that on TV?!?!}  She really liked some of the little touches I had added to some of the skirts.
On Sunday, at the last minute, I decided to attend my family ward with my parents.  There is nothing I love more than being able to sit next to my Mom at church and singing the hymns alongside of her.  I really enjoy her alto voice, which happens to blend well with my soprano voice.  Usually, by the second verse of the hymn, we switch it up because I want to try singing alto with her, but then she jumps to soprano.  Sometimes I wish she'd just sing alto along with me, but perhaps she leaves me to do it all my own because she thinks I can handle it without her help. It's still such a blessing to sing with her at church.  I love it and cherish those moments.
I know my Mom and I haven't had the best relationship, these last few years, but I couldn't be more grateful for the gift of music and the talent of sewing that she's abundantly blessed my life with.

Thank you Mom.

My Funny {Sweet, Cute, & Loving} Valentines

Feb. 15, 2013:

Several weeks ago Levi started to talk about my Valentines day gift.  I LOVE his surprises, I truly do! However, contrary to popular belief, I am not the most patient person.  As much as I'd want him to tell me, I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the element of a [good] surprise.  Levi does a VERY good job at good surprises, because I'm always surprised & elated afterwards. Most of the "surprises" I've known in my life weren't even "surprises", nor were they even that good so then it just left me disappointed.  So bless his heart for all the surprises he's given me because they've been SPECTACULAR!
Levi doesn't give me any true hints, nor does he confirm/deny any of my guesses...so I'm just left wondering. However, this time, he gave me tiny hints...
1. He had to apply hinges. (he accidentally slipped on this one)
2. He'd have to borrow his Dad's truck in order to deliver it, since it's much too big to fit in his car.
3. We'd be able to use (and fill) it together.

With hint #1, I thought it was a jewelry box, because I've wanted once since he first told me that he does wood working.  After hint #2, I'd tease him that it just had to be a jewelry box after all! Then after hint #3, I was totally thrown for a loop {jokingly, I was still hoping it was the world's largest jewelry box!}.
I took him lunch at work yesterday, and had the option of looking at pictures on his phone.  As tempting as it was, I thought I'd just wait til that evening.  In the mean while, he gave me a heart shaped box of See's candy and a card, just like my Dad use to do for my Mom every Valentine's Day.  I was touched by that, and the card he picked was beyond PERFECT, for me from him.  {This man is incredible!}
As I walked into his house last night, I caught a glimpse of my gift.  Walking into the living room, I saw his Dad and friend on the couch, and wasn't exactly sure if that was really my gift. I awkwardly said hi and went off to find Levi.  We walked back to the living room and he confirmed that it was my gift.

I was overcome with all of it! A hope chest! He MADE me a hope chest! Something that I've always wanted!!  His Dad & friend looked for a reaction {because on Christmas, I started to cry after opening my camera from Levi}, but I was seriously overwhelmed with such an enormous gift of love.  It was like sensory overload.  It was a lot bigger than I espected, I just wanted to touch it because the grain of the oak & cherry woods were so beautiful and I LOVED the scent of the cedar inside.  I just couldn't believe it.  As I took it all in, I remember hearing Levi say something about filling it with stuff we come across whenever we're out.  I also heard his Dad mentioning butterfly dishes that belonged to his Mom that could also go inside, as well as the dinner table and chairs that would go to Levi.  Their voices were like background sounds and even though I could hear their voices, it took a bit to have it all sink in.  I just couldn't stop looking at my hope chest.  Someone loves me that much to make me a whole hope chest, out of wood, with their two hands.  I think I was even a little shocked that I didn't cry because I seriously thought I was going to, but I think I was just shocked beyond belief.  {Not to worry, my normal self returned and I cried a little later}
This man is truly wonderful.  I'm so in love with him and can never get enough together time with him.  I'm so unbelievably lucky.  I know this.

Hump Day/Valentine's Day Eve Randies....

*Man, I own A LOT of stuff. Seriously, it's almost just too much STUFF.  As much as I love all my picture frames, I either need to hang all of them or take the photo out and just put 'em in photo albums.  I look around and I just feel like it's a bunch of clutter.  When my cousin Andrea & her husband came back from Fiji, they got rid of A LOT of their stuff because they felt like it was just TOO MUCH compared to what Fijians had.  She was so glad for it, and since then I've tried to have that same mentality.............but I feel like I'm failing at it.  Try again, Ehu, try again.

*Last night, at Young Womens Volleyball practice, I ended up playing a 2 vs. 6 game.  One of the girl's Dad offered to team up with me to play a game against the girls.  I wasn't really expecting to play a game, but man, it felt so good!  He's a strong partner, which makes a world of difference!  We were dominating over the girls, and as happy as I was about that, I was also worried about how the girls were playing.  Their first game is in a week and a half, with one more practice next week.  We'll see how it all pans out....

*Man oh man, I am ECSTATIC for Valentine's Day!  I'm so excited that I'll be able to see Levi, after his class, since we'll be going to our favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner.  We LOVE Panda Inn, so we'll be celebrating Valentine's Day as well as Chinese New Year that was this past Sunday. All in all, I'm just over the moon to see my sweetheart. More so, it puts me one day closer to see my Valentine's Day gift that he's been working on for the last several weeks.  I'm not the most patient person, so I've been trying to egg him on in telling me what it is!  He knows me too well and NEVER falls for it. {darn it!} I'm also super stoked to give him his Valentine's Day gift on Saturday.  YAY for Vday weekend celebrations!

*So after FHE on Monday, two friends complimented me on how well I conducted FHE.  Honestly, I get so dang nervous having to conduct that meeting, so I told them, "I would rather sing a solo in church than have to conduct FHE"....and then it happened.  No more than 5 minutes later, I found myself talking to the music chairman/ward organist, offering to sing a solo, since she was out of options & pianists (and was going to sing a solo herself, but the accompanist wasn't going to work out).  I said to her, "If you're REALLY desperate, I can sing a solo, of a song that I've sung at church before" and she quickly accepted.  Suddenly conducting FHE didn't look too bad anymore..... man, I'm a lil nervous.  Ok, let's be serious here, I'm WAY nervous.  Whenever I've had to sing at church, I always hope to have a friendly face to focus on, because it makes it a loteasier to feel relaxed.  Plus, it's always been reassuring to know that at least that one friendly face will still love you in the end, in case I messed up.  When I had to sing this song for the first time, back in CVYSA, I had Mama McK, Mr. Red & my entire family there to support me.  I was so nervous, and due to the beautiful lyrics of the song, I was overwhelmed with tears after I sang.  It was nice to look up and see such warm and friendly smiles from my loved ones, as well as reassuring texts.  I'm just really nervous to be singing a solo again.  I hope to have at least one reassuring face in the congregation that'll still be my friend in case I butcher my song.  Sometimes, ok, maybe all the time, my nerves get the best of me.

The Peebs + Valentine's = FUN!

Saturday night was my ward Valentine's party.  It was FUN!  I love seeing my friends and spending time with Levi.  It's like having a chocolate cupcake with sprinkles on it!  Speaking of sprinkles, I'm still deciding what to do for FHE refreshments tonight.  I have some ideas in mind, but since I've been craving pretzels for a while, I want to do something with those as well.
This keeps coming to mind, but I don't know.....  I'm so undecided!  There's so many YUMMY options! And I love how pink and loveydovey all the options are!! Oh man!!  I'm way excited for FHE tonight because a missionary couple will be talking to us about the Five Love Languages.  I think this can be a very beneficial lesson to everyone!  I've studied it before and taught a class on it, and just knowing about it can help so many relationships with family, friends and loved ones.  CAN'T WAIT!!

ONE WEEK!!

Ok, seriously, it's one week away til Valentine's Day! I'm glad that the present I have in mind for Levi isn't anything I need to stress over.  Easy peasy and fun waiting to happen.....however....
I just realized that I have to have my Vday gifts for my friends at church, ready this Sunday.  Jinkies!  I'm not ready!! NOT. READY. AT. ALL.!!! Even though I've been planning it for a month! Seriously, how did time fly by so quickly?? Dangit!  Plus, I fell asleep before I could even start on it, like I was planning on! Ayeyiyi....

I need to get cracking.  But man, am I excited for Valentine's Day week to start! Luckily, it starts on Saturday with my ward party! I'm excited! Then FHE will be a missionary couple teaching us about the Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman.  Seriously, I'm excited for all the love in the air!!!  How fun!

Love Month!

Can I just say how much I love Valentines Day?  Ok, so it wasn't always my most favorite of holidays, in fact I use to despise it.  But there's something a lil sad about being bitter on a day that celebrates love.  For a long time I didn't have someone to really enjoy on the day, but I wanted to enjoy the day anyways.  I've come to learn that it's really just a day to celebrate love--for everyone and everything.  Just because I didn't have someone special in my life didn't mean that I had to forget all the great and wonderful people that I did have.  Last year, my then 10 year old niece, was starting to become a lil sad about the day.  I didn't want her to start having a bad taste in her mouth about this particular holiday.  I "heart attacked" her living room the night before Vday, so it would be a nice lil surprise for her in the morning. I'm glad it perked her up! This year, she's already mentioned doing that for me when I awake on Vday morning.  Have I mentioned how endearingly sweet my niece is? She really is the best!
Perhaps I'm even more jazzed about this year's Valentines Day because I have someone so special to share it with.  But I haven't forgotten about all the other things that make Valentines Day special--it's having family and friends to love, and being loved in return.  Isn't that something worth celebrating?! Especially on Valentines Day...and all throughout the month of February? I think so!

I can't wait
It's my favorite holiday!

Addicted.

Yeaaaaaah..... I can't help it, I'm addicted.
I see one pin...then I'm on another board...and then pinning more pins.... {then repeat}
There's just so many different ideas that I want to remember them all, so I'm repinning all over my boards!
Lately, I've been checking out Valentines Day pins, for my niece....which makes me look forward to Valentines Day!  There's so many cool Valentines ideas, for her, that I actually want to make some and pass them out to my friends.  Yeah yeah, I'm 32 but I think it's ok to celebrate holidays....by passing out Valentines to close friends.  Besides, I know I would be totally ok if a friend gave me a Valetines--I'm just saying. You're never too old to celebrate love.

NYE!

*My youngest nephew, Kalanster, and his band performed at the House of Blues last night.  I was so proud of him.  I know he had a good time and they've come a long way.  Good for them!

*Tonight's New Years Eve and my family & Levi are going out to dinner.  We're going to an ol' family fave.  It's pretty good Chinese food, but nothing like my beloved Wing Wah.

*Last night, on the way to Kalanster's gig, Levi & I were caught in the rain.  We were trying to locate Nicky Rottens, but ended up going to Panda Inn because of the rain AND it was A LOT closer.  I wouldn't have minded walking to find it, but barely getting over a cold and walking in the rain, doesn't make for a good combination.  I REALLY like Panda Inn.  Just walking in made me remember our Halloween date, when we ate there in our panda costumes.  Oh such a splendid evening, which makes me like Panda Inn more!  Besides, the food is SO good!!

*I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty ecstatic to finally have my first NYE kiss at midnight.  It only took 32 years, but I'm excited.

*Joz, my friend and previous Relief Society counselor-turned RS President, got her mission call to Florida.  I'm so excited for her.  I know that she will be a wonderful and uplifting missionary!! I will miss her greatly!

*We went to watch Les Miserables.  I was a lil hesitant to see it because I had dreamed of finishing the book beforehand, but if its taken me a year and a half to try, I guess it would just be better to watch it.  Oh man, I wanted to cry.  Everything that Mr. Red had told me about it was true, it was beautiful...captivating and marvelous.  I loved it.  I wish there was more on the priest, because I loved reading about him, but Jean Valjean was magnificent.  I loved him.  All the songs make more sense and mean more now that I know the stories behind the songs.   I think the song I love the most is "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables".  When Marius sings it, you can just feel the loss and hurt in his voice--or maybe I can hear it more in the musical soundtrack.  I love that song, but I also love "Bring Him Home"!  So beautiful.  All in all, such a beautiful soundtrack! LOVE IT!!!!  I can't wait to finish the book now because I know there's so much to the story than what we saw in the movie.

*Watching Les Mis made me miss Mr. Red.  I haven't seen him since my birthday and soon enough he'll be moving.  I miss our talks.  I miss hearing his enthusiasm for Les Mis.  Since Bugs has been extremely busy and I haven't seen her since summer, he's been the closest thing to a best friend.  I just miss having someone I can talk to about everything and anything, and knows my heart w/o any explanation.  I wish I knew what was going with Bugs.  Kinda sucks.

*I'm excited for the new year.  I'm excited for a fresh start.  I've been thinking about a word/motto that I can focus on, for 2013.  There's some changes in my life that I need to make, things to improve and enrich my life.  I'm still deciding on my 'focus word', but whatever it is, I know it'll help better my {daily} life.  I'm optimistic on the good that this new year will bring.

A letter, to the North Pole!

Dear Santa,
My niece has been telling me that I need to put my Christmas wish list together.  I haven't done one of these lists since I was in the single digit ages.  It's not that I don't necessarily believe in you in anymore, it's just that I hardly get the Christmas gifts that I hope for.  In fact, unless I buy my own gift for myself, I'm usually disappointed.  In the last decade, I've stopped getting my hopes up for Christmas gifts, which has put a damper on my Christmas spirit.  I know that's not good, so I'm sorry Santa for not having the Christmas spirit as much as I should.
So to comply with my niece's desire, here is my Christmas wish list for this year....

Isn't she pretty? Oh I would love to get my hands on a DSLR again!

I think this would totally help me enjoy baking more.
It doesn't necessarily have to be an Apple, but I sure love the camera option.

I just love cardigans and I've been wanting a dark purple & mustard cardigans.

I've finally come to realize that Disneyland is the happiest place on earth! I can't help but grin, ear to ear!

I just love the heart pendants from Tiffany, especially this one!
Well Santa, those are most of the items on my Christmas wish list.  I know some items are a bit much, but I'm pretty sure I've been a good girl, this year.  I won't be disappointed if I don't get anything on this list.  This past month, I've come to learn that gifts aren't necessarily something I choose, but something I accept as a token of love and consideration.  Santa, whatever I find under my Christmas tree this year, I'll be grateful, because I've already received the best Christmas present ever - Jesus Christ.

-Ehu.

Thursday, too soon.

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is in a week! ONE WEEK!!!

Where has the time gone?!?!  I feel like October went by in a flash and now November is flying by too!!  In a way, I hope November flies by quickly so that Levi comes home sooner.  In the same breath, I'm ok with it going by slowly.  I'm not ready for Christmas to be here....not at all.

However, back to Thanksgiving.....

I sure do love Thanksgiving. I love the togetherness.  I love Cranberry sauce.  I love the fact that it's so American.  I love it all!!
